As the Season of Sharing fundraising campaign ends, the campaign’s 21st year proved to be another record-breaking one with the community raising over $3.7 million.

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County said in a prepared statement it received nearly 3,800 gifts from donors and local foundations during the official fundraising campaign that ran from November through January.

The donations will help families and individuals across Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte and DeSoto counties in need throughout 2021 with everyday costs like rent, utility bills, child care and transportation to assist them in regaining their financial stability.

During the campaign, The Patterson Foundation pledged to contribute $100,000 each time the community gave $500,000 to Season of Sharing. In the 10 years that The Patterson Foundation has donated to the campaign, Debra Jacobs, president and CEO of The Patterson Foundation, said this year marked the foundation’s largest contribution to date, totaling $600,000.

With this year’s total, Season of Sharing’s 21-year total is now over $30 million, and the donations have helped over 35,000 households since its start, the Community Foundation said.
