Laura Spencer, CPA, is the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County since August 2012. This key role is responsible for the Foundation’s financial reporting, risk management functions, budget, technology and investment oversight.
Laura has a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with High Honors from the University of Florida. Laura has also completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. She started her career with Deloitte, Haskins & Sells in Tampa, followed by nine years at Kerkering, Barberio & Co. CPA’s before joining Tervis Tumbler Company. She spent 14 years at Tervis, the 65-year old manufacturer of premium insulated drinkware based in North Venice, where she held several key leadership roles during a significant period of growth in the organization, including the role of President and Chief Executive Officer from 2006-2010.
Laura was awarded the 2008-2009 Outstanding Florida CPA in Business and Industry by the Florida Institute of CPAs and The Elijah Watt Sells Award for scoring in the top 0.1% of the Uniform CPA Exam.
Laura’s community involvement includes the Florida Suncoast Chapter of the International Women’s Forum, the Harvard Club, and past board member of the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) of Sarasota County.
Laura has strong roots to the area, having grown up in Sarasota and Venice. Outside of work, she enjoys being active, including tennis, golf, volleyball and hiking. She has a son, Kevin.
