Houston: We're Here to Support You

Categories: COMMUNITY CARE: Emergency Needs & Disaster Relief, The Patterson Foundation,

As we watch in disbelief at the catastrophic flooding in the Houston area, our first instinct as Americans is to ask "how can we help?" Seeing so many fellow citizens dealing with devastating flooding of their homes, businesses, schools, hospitals and knowing it will be days, months and years to fully recover, I reached out to my longtime friend and colleague Steve Maislin, President and CEO of the Greater Houston Community Foundation to see how caring people in our community could help.

After receiving an overwhelming number of inquiries from citizens and companies who want to help, Mayor Sylvester Turner worked with the Greater Houston Community Foundation to establish the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund that will accept tax-deductible flood relief donations for victims that have been affected by the recent floods.

Knowing community foundations understand their local community needs the best, I am confident the Greater Houston Community Foundation will do an excellent job stewarding the funds received. In support of the victims of Hurricane Harvey, the Community Foundation of Sarasota County is granting $5,000 to the relief fund to show our caring, prayers and support of those in need for the days ahead.

As always, Community Foundation of Sarasota County donors can make a grant directly from their Donor Advised Funds by contacting Patricia Martin at 941.556.7172 or Patricia@CFSarasota.org.

Thank you for joining us to be the one to support those in need in Houston.

Gratefully,

Roxie
