The American Dream has always been premised on the ability for families to thrive through hard work, resilience, and resolve. However, thousands of hard-working families in our community are struggling to simply survive. As bills pile up, many find themselves and their children living under the threat of homelessness.
|Season of Sharing recipient, Felicia, with her son. As a single mother, Felicia was in a dire situation resulting from a string of financial challenges and ill-timed emergencies. With a broken down car and few resources to pay for both rent and meals, she reached out for help.
With your help, Season of Sharing helps individuals and families from Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte and DeSoto counties who are on the verge of homelessness to stay in their homes. Funds may be used for rent or mortgage, utility bills, child care, transportation, food vouchers or other crucial expenses. This year in particular, we know many in our community have been greatly impacted by the adverse effects of the ongoing Red Tide algae bloom.
Season of Sharing is a 19-year community-wide fundraising partnership created by The Herald-Tribune Media Group and The Community Foundation of Sarasota County. Now, with additional media partners and support from you, the Season of Sharing Campaign is growing beyond what any community of our size has supported.

Want to support Season of Sharing in perpetuity?
In June 2012, The Patterson Foundation, along with the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, established the Diane McFarlin Season of Sharing Endowment Fund in honor of Diane McFarlin, former publisher of the Herald-Tribune Media Group. Every dollar donated was matched one-to-one, up to $250,000, by The Patterson Foundation. Thanks to the support of the community, the fund now stands with a balance of more than $1,000,000.
Each year, 4.5 percent of the principal of the Endowment Fund will be contributed to the annual Season of Sharing campaign, to ensure that vulnerable families in our community are assisted for years to come.
