Valerie's House Gets $5K Grant for Grief Support

Valerie’s House Charlotte County received a $5,000 grant from the Zella I. and Junius F. Allen Fund through the Community Foundation of Sarasota County to expand peer grief support services. The funding will help increase access to no-cost, trauma-informed care for children and families in Charlotte, Sarasota, and DeSoto counties who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Since launching locally in 2019, Valerie’s House has grown through school and community partnerships. In 2025, the nonprofit served 270 individuals and provided 119 hours of counseling support, focusing on peer-based programs that help participants process grief and build coping skills.
