Sarasota, Florida — The Community Foundation of Sarasota County recently hired Scott Swan as a philanthropic advisor. Swan joins the foundation after a distinguished 38-year career in banking, most recently serving as a senior vice president and senior fiduciary advisor at PNC Private Bank. While there, he administered complex trusts with more than $3 million in assets under management, collaborated with clients to review and execute estate planning strategies and more. As a philanthropic advisor at the foundation, he will work with donors to help them realize their charitable goals through social impact investments.

“Scott has decades of experience managing complex trusts and investment accounts, but even more importantly, he has a long track record of working as a trusted advisor for families and individuals, building strong relationships across multiple generations to ensure that their financial plans are smartly crafted and deliver the results that they’re looking for,” says Jay Young, the Community Foundation’s vice president of philanthropy. “While Scott’s new role at the foundation represents a career shift, his relationship-building skills and his passion for helping people make him an ideal fit for the foundation.”

Swan joined PNC Bank in 1988 after graduating from Indiana’s DePauw University with an economics degree. Beginning as a management trainee, he quickly became a branch manager and officer and then assistant vice president and trust officer. He later served as a vice president and trust officer with Citizens National Bank in Evansville, Indiana, and as a vice president and wealth management advisor at U.S. Bank Private Client Reserve in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 2012, he returned to PNC Private Bank as a senior fiduciary advisor in Cincinnati and then, beginning in 2018, as a senior vice president in Sarasota.

In addition to his work as a banker, Swan has been an active volunteer and supporter of nonprofits for much of his life. While living in the Midwest, he volunteered with Junior Achievement, which delivers lessons in financial literacy, entrepreneurship and more to young people; the Interfaith Hospitality Network, which provides shelter and meals to homeless families; People Working Cooperatively, which provides repairs and other services to low-income homeowners; the Freestore Foodbank, an emergency food provider in the greater Cincinnati area; and the Episcopal Community Services Foundation. Since moving to Florida, he has volunteered his time as a steering committee member with Equality Florida, which works to expand rights for the LGBTQ+ community, and has served on the board of ALSO Youth, which provides peer support, scholarships, counseling and more for LGBTQ+ youth. Swan is the father of three adult children and stepfather to the adult daughter of his husband, Michael Sibert.

“Throughout my life and career, I have been driven by a deep love for service, whether that means helping a client realize their goals for themselves and their families, or giving back by helping people in need,” says Swan. “At the foundation, I am excited to be able to combine those passions so that our donors can see their legacies come to life through charitable giving.”
