Transition Sarasota is a non-profit organization, of the greater Transition US movement, committed to developing community-driven solutions for our local food system. Our vision is a sustainable, just, and thriving local food system. Our Suncoast Gleaning Program utilizes our volunteers to harvest (glean) excess produce at local farms that would normally go to landfills or would go unused. The fresh produce is gleaned, transported, and donated to All Faiths Food Bank and Food Bank of Manatee and then is distributed to our local community in need. The program promotes community involvement through volunteerism, provides farmers with a solution to manage overabundance in the field, and provides fresh, healthy, local food to those that need a helping hand.

Funding for the Transition Sarasota Suncoast Gleaning Project is provided in part by the George J. & Alice Pugh Donor Advised Fund of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County.
