Traditional Students

Special Note:  Students are only required to complete one traditional application to be eligible for any of  the scholarships for which they qualify for.  A traditional scholarship fund which requires a different application at this time is the Father Connie Doughtery Scholarship. 


Emily and Roland Abraham Educational Fund in Memory of Emily Abraham

Established by Roland Abraham to honor the memory of his late wife, Emily. Scholarships are available to seniors graduating from public high school in Charlotte, Manatee or Sarasota Counties who have attained a 3.2 grade point average and demonstrate financial need. Awards will be given to help students pursue a college degree or vocational training.

The ABWA Sunrise Chapter Scholarship Fund

Established to provide scholarships to attend college for graduating high school seniors and recent graduates who are already attending college who are residents of Manatee and Sarasota Counties. Preference will be given to female students with financial need. Applicants must have a 3.0 unweighted high school GPA, be of good character, and have a career goal related to their college or university studies.

Marvin and Rosaline Brandau Scholarship Fund

Established to provide scholarships for high school seniors and recent graduates currently attending college who have graduated from Sarasota County high schools, who demonstrate financial need, personal merit, leadership potential, and plan to major in engineering.

Dr. H. Thomas Byron Jr. Scholarship Fund

Established to honor the memory of Dr. Tom Byron. Scholarships are available for graduating seniors of Sarasota County high schools.  Criteria are financial need, leadership potential and community service. Preference will be given to Pine View and Cardinal Mooney High School students who will attend Auburn University, Georgetown University, Middlebury College, Stanford University or Stonehill College.

Kathleen K. Catlin Scholarship Fund

Established to provide scholarships for graduating seniors of Venice High School who demonstrate financial need and community involvement.

Chris Craft OMC Scholarship Fund

Established to provide scholarships for graduating high school seniors in Manatee and Sarasota Counties to attend college or technical school. Financial need and academic achievement are the main criteria.

The Community Foundation Scholarship Fund

Established to provide scholarships for Sarasota County high school seniors and recent graduates currently attending college to attend college or vocational school who demonstrate financial need, initiative, and the capacity to succeed.

The Saul H. and JoAnne Coplan Scholarship Fund

Established to provide scholarships to graduating high school seniors in Sarasota County who are African American and plan to major in the physical sciences: chemistry, biology, physics, astronomy, and/or technology. Applicants must have a 3.0 unweighted GPA, meet financial guidelines of the free or reduced lunch program, provide a letter of reference from an 11th or 12th grade science or technology teacher, and provide a list of all the science projects and competitions in which the applicant has participated.

The Jane T. and Robert V. Corning Scholarship Fund

Established to provide scholarships to graduates of public and private high schools in Sarasota County. The main criterion is financial need. Preference is given to students who have exhibited leadership potential and have demonstrated the resolve and ability to complete a course of study.

Zora E. Coxe & Charlotte M. Smith Scholarship Fund

Established to provide scholarships for individuals from South Sarasota County pursuing a four-year degree in education for the purpose of teaching in a public school.

H. K. and Ruth K. Daniels Scholarship Fund

Established to provide scholarships for graduating high school students who are residents of Englewood, Florida.  Criteria include financial need, student activities, and educational objectives.

Mary M. and George H. Hammill Scholarship Fund

Established to provide scholarships for graduating high school seniors in Sarasota County pursuing a major in music.  Preference will be given to South County residents. Financial need is the main criterion.

Keith G. Hirst Scholarship Fund

Established to provide scholarships to high school seniors in Sarasota County who plan to pursue a career in communications, business, economics, or a related area. Half of the awards are merit awards to graduates with a GPA of 3.5 or higher who have also demonstrated a diligent work ethic along with community involvement. Half of the awards are leadership awards to graduates who have achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher, have overcome personal difficulties and need financial assistance.

Margaret “Jill” Jillson Scholarship Fund

Established to provide scholarships to graduating high school seniors in Manatee and Sarasota Counties who have attained a 2.5 grade point average and plan to major in elementary education. Financial need is the main criterion.  Preference will be given to students planning to attend community college.

Jason Kessler Memorial Scholarship Fund for Area Soccer Players

Established by the Sarasota United Soccer League to honor the memory of Jason Kessler. Scholarships are for graduating high school seniors in Sarasota County who have played soccer with the Sarasota United Soccer League and have volunteered in the community. Additional essay required emphasizing how involvement in soccer has influenced the student's life and why he/she wants to continue his/her education.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Fund

Created by the Celebration Committee honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., scholarships are available to graduating public high school students in Sarasota County who are qualified minorities with financial need who demonstrate community leadership. Additional essay required emphasizing the student's understanding of the vision and compassion exhibited by Dr. King.

Thomas J. Lehnen and Patricia A. Lehnen Scholarship Fund

Established to provide scholarships for graduating high school seniors and those already attending college who are residents of Manatee and Sarasota Counties to pursue a degree in architecture or music. Applicants must have a 2.8 GPA. Selection will be based on financial need, academic achievement and community service.

The Clifford J. and Mildred R. Marlow Scholarship Fund

Established to provide scholarships for graduating seniors of Venice High School who demonstrate financial need and community involvement.

Murphy Family Scholarship Fund

Established to provide scholarships for graduating seniors of Sarasota County high schools who wish to pursue a degree in medicine. Criteria include financial need and educational objectives. Additional essay requiredexplaining why the student has chosen to pursue a degree in medicine. Preference will be given to graduates of Venice High School.

Nethercott Scholarship Fund

Established to provide scholarships for high school seniors and recent graduates currently attending college who reside in Charlotte, Manatee and Sarasota Counties and have a grade point average of 3.0. Criteria include financial need, leadership potential and work experience.

Allen Wirtz Nobbe and Jo Bowen Nobbe Scholarship Fund

Established to provide scholarships to graduating high school seniors and recent graduates already attending college to attend college or vocational school.  Financial need is the main criterion.

Ellis K. and Jane R. Reinach Fund

Established to provide scholarships for graduating high school seniors residing in Sarasota County. Academic achievement is the main criterion for this scholarship.

The Willie Mae Sheffield Endowed Scholarship Fund

Established to provide scholarships to students who reside in the area known as “Newtown,” in Sarasota, Florida.  Scholarships will be open to any graduating public high school student or recent graduate regardless of ethnic background, religion, race or sex. Selection is based on financial need, well rounded activities, and defined educational objectives. 

George & Karla Sherburne Educational Fund

Established to provide scholarships to Sarasota County residents to attend a college or vocational school situated in Florida. Criteria include financial need, leadership potential, and good behavior or deportment.

Manatee/Sarasota Sierra Club Scholarship Fund

Established to provide scholarships for Manatee and Sarasota County graduating high school seniors to pursue higher education in the field of environmental science. Applicants must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA.  Criteria include financial need and educational objectives. Additional essay required discussing the student's goals and career path in the field of environmental science.

Dorothy B. Templeton Scholarship Fund

Established in 2008 to provide scholarships for Sarasota County graduating high school seniors to attend college or vocational school and recent graduates currently attending college. Criteria are financial need and carefully thought out educational objectives.

James Franklin & Dorothy J. Warnell Scholarship Fund

Established to provide scholarships for Sarasota County high school seniors and recent graduates currently attending college to attend college or vocational school. Criteria are financial need and carefully thought out educational objectives.

Lee Wetherington Scholarship Fund

Established to provide scholarships for high school seniors and recent graduates currently attending college who reside in Sarasota or Manatee County to pursue a four-year college degree. Criteria are financial need, academic achievement and community service.  Preference will be given to students who have participated actively in the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and Manatee Counties.

Adult Learners

Special Note:  Adult learners are defined by any person over the age of 24. Adult learners are only required to complete one adult learner application to be eligible for any of  the scholarships for which they qualify for. 

 

The AAUW Sarasota Branch Scholarship Fund

The American Association of University Women Sarasota Branch Scholarship Fund was established in 2000 to provide scholarships to residents of Sarasota County to attend a 4 year college or university. Preference is given to women returning to finish their education in order to re-enter the workplace.

The AAUW Sarasota Branch Elizabeth Parker Scholarship Fund

The American Association of University Women Sarasota Branch Elizabeth Parker Scholarship Fund was established in 2006 to provide scholarships to residents of Sarasota County to attend a 4 year college or university. Preference is given to women returning to finish their education in order to re-enter the workplace.

The ABWA Sunrise Chapter Scholarship Fund

The American Business Women’s Association Sunrise Chapter Scholarship Fund was established in 2003 for needy individuals to attend an accredited college or university. Applications will be open to any individual currently residing in Sarasota County.  Preference will be given to female students with financial need. Applicants must have a 3.0 unweighted high school GPA, be of good character, be pursuing a 4 year degree, and have a career goal related to their college or university studies.

The byourself Scholarship Fund

Established in 2002, the byourself Scholarship Fund will provide scholarships to adult learners, men or women, in Sarasota County pursuing an RN, LPN, or CNA.  Scholarships are for students accepted into the nursing programs at Manatee Community College or Sarasota County Technical Institute. The scholarship may be renewed if the student maintains a 2.8 GPA.  Financial need is the major criterion.

The Davis Educational Fund

The Davis Educational Fund offers scholarships to adult learners, men and women, who are residents of Sarasota County. It was established to help students obtain a college degree or vocational training to pursue a career in nursing or the medical field. A preference will be given to students who have been accepted into a health related program.  Recipients will be selected on the basis of their financial need and on their educational objectives that will lead to a career in the health care field.

The George W. and Ethel B. Hoefler Fund

Established in 2009, the George W. and Ethel B. Hoefler Fund is to provide scholarships for Sarasota County residents. Recipients will be selected on the basis of financial need and demonstrated aptitude and seriousness of purpose.

The Helen F. "Jerri" Rand Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Helen F. "Jerri" Rand Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2006 to provide scholarships for adult learners in Sarasota County to pursue a professional certificate in Hairdressing. Applicants must be accepted to any accredited beauty school in Sarasota County.

The Sarasota Bay Club Employee Scholarship Fund

Established in 2009, the Sarasota Bay Club Employee Scholarship Fund is to provide scholarships for employees of the Sarasota Bay Club.

The Dorothy B. Templeton Scholarship Fund

Established in 2008, the Dorothy B. Templeton Scholarship Fund is to provide scholarships for local students.

James Franklin & Dorothy J. Warnell Scholarship Fund

Established in 2003, the Warnell Scholarship is for residents of Sarasota County for post high school education.  This scholarship is for men and women and may be used for expenses incurred while attending school.  Financial need and carefully thought out educational objectives are the criteria.  If you are not eligible for any other scholarship listed, you may be eligible for this scholarship.

The Zonta Fund for Women

The Zonta Club of Sarasota, an international service organization of professional women, started the Zonta Fund for Women of the Community Foundation in 1991. The purpose of the Zonta Fund is to promote economic self-sufficiency for women in Sarasota County and provide economic opportunities for disadvantaged women in Sarasota County.  Through the Zonta Fund, grants and scholarships are provided so that women can get the training they need to start a business or develop the business that they already have.  Preference is given to women who have already demonstrated a commitment to realizing their goals.  Examples of help include: 1) Completion of educational or technical training that allows a woman to pursue a career 2) Acquisition of business equipment needed to improve a woman's competitive position or productive capacity.
