Season of Sharing helps young Sarasota family move from shelter into a stable home

Her daughter’s first birthday was approaching, and Kayli Parker wanted to make it special.

It didn’t matter that they were living in a temporary shelter of Harvest House.

It didn’t matter that for weeks leading up to Rose’s birthday in late August, Parker, 23, had been frantically searching for stable housing for her young family, or that in a matter of weeks they could be on the street.

Amid the chaos of daily life – with just her husband and another mom and the mom’s four kids at the shelter to celebrate – Parker needed the day for her little girl to be memorable.

But soon after the cupcakes were eaten, the balloons were deflated and Rose’s special outfit folded and put away, Parker’s worries resumed.
