CFSC President and CEO Roxie Jerde Elected Chair of Community Foundation Network of FPN
By Murray Devine / May 29, 2013

Community Foundation of Sarasota County President and CEO Roxie Jerde was recently elected Chair of Florida Philanthropic Network’s Community Foundations of Florida group by members of FPN's Community Foundations of Florida Leadership Team.

Community Foundations of Florida is a network of Florida Philanthropic Network's 25 community foundation members, who work together to promote philanthropy in our neighborhoods and throughout Florida. These foundations hold more than $1.54 billion in charitable assets and give $115 million each year to support the vital work of nonprofits in our communities. Each Florida community foundation is a nonprofit, tax-exempt charitable organization created by and for the people of a particular area. They help donors make a positive impact on their community, now … and forever.

The chair can be elected for two one-year terms.  The Community Foundations of Florida Leadership Team provides overall direction and guidance on the programs and other services that FPN provides to its community foundation members.

"We're pleased to welcome Roxie Jerde as Chair of Florida Philanthropic Network's Community Foundations of Florida network,” said David Biemesderfer, President & CEO of Florida Philanthropic Network. “She has been a well-known community foundation leader nationally for many years, and in her two years at the Community Foundation of Sarasota County she has quickly earned the respect and admiration of her community foundation colleagues statewide. We look forward to the thoughtful and innovative leadership she will bring to our community foundation network."

In March 2011, Jerde moved to Sarasota from Kansas City, where she served as Senior Vice President for Donor Relations and Education at the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, one of the largest community foundations in the nation and widely regarded as a thought leader in philanthropy. In this role, she spearheaded many innovative initiatives, including the development and implementation of DonorEdge, an online resource that enables donors to evaluate their philanthropic choices that is utilized nationwide by 16 community foundations.

Since arriving in Sarasota, Jerde has worked closely with Community Foundation donors along with area nonprofits, businesses and foundations to solve important issues affecting our community. She spearheaded the launch of DonorEdge – locally branded as The Giving Partner – in collaboration with The Patterson Foundation,Selby FoundationGulf Coast Community Foundation and Manatee Community Foundation. The Giving Partner’s second 36-Hour Giving Challenge, an online giving event to benefit participating nonprofits, raised nearly $2.8 million in 2013. She helped to lead the Season of Sharing campaign – a collaboration of the Herald-Tribune Media Group and numerous other media partners, area foundations and social service agencies – to help families on the verge of homelessness remain in their homes, to new heights: the most recent campaign raised over $1.76 million.

Jerde has brought the Community Foundation into multi-partner educational collaborations including Campaign for Grade Level Reading, with the goal to ensure students read at the 3rd grade level by the end of 3rd grade; Any Given Child, which works to expand arts education, ensuring access and equity for all students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade; and EdExploreSRQ, an initiative that provides students with valuable exposure to arts, science and culture through “explorations,” in-classroom and off-campus experiences that are offered by 36 partner organizations
