Huisking Family Fund Surpasses $1 Million in Charitable Grants
The Huisking Family Fund at the Community Foundation of Sarasota County has surpassed $1 million in grants awarded to nonprofit organizations.
At a reception earlier this month at the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, Charlie Huisking III spoke of the charitable values instilled in him by his family.
“My father introduced me to the concept of philanthropy as a child one day when we passed a Salvation Army bell-ringer. I asked for some quarters to put in the kettle. He said, ‘Ok, and we’ll take that out of your allowance so it will mean something,’” said Charlie.
A multitude of local organizations have received support from the fund since 2009 including: Ringling College of Art & Design, Sarasota Ballet, Asolo Repertory Theatre, Key Chorale, Easter Seals of Southwest FL, Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training, Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe, Sarasota Opera, Southeastern Guide Dogs, and the Season of Sharing campaign.
“The great work local organizations do makes giving away money very easy, but also very hard, because there are so many worthy organizations and causes to support.” Huisking said.
“We were honored to host a celebration of an incredible milestone for the Huisking Family Fund at the Community Foundation,” says Roxie Jerde, President and CEO of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County.
“We are not only privileged to be able to work with Charlie, who truly embodies the giving heart and spirit, but our entire community benefits from someone who is so dedicated to supporting our wonderful local organizations. He is an inspiration to those who share the values of philanthropy.”
