CFSC Provides $25,000 in Emergency Funding to All Faiths
The Community Foundation of Sarasota County provided an emergency grant of $25,000 from its Season of Sharing Fund to All Faiths Food Bank following a brief refrigeration malfunction. The funds were provided to replenish meat and other frozen food products that had been stored at the Food Bank for distribution to its partner agencies.
All Faiths Food Bank, in conjunction with 180 agencies and food assistance programs, provides almost 90,000 meals each week in Sarasota and DeSoto Counties. An important part of its programs and distribution includes providing protein and meat to people in need, along with nutrition education when possible.
In August, an attentive staffer noticed a temperature fluctuation in the Food Bank’s freezer storage unit. Concerned that this might cause a possible food safety problem, food safety inspectors were called in immediately. Food Bank Executive Director Sandra Frank turned to the Community Foundation of Sarasota County to grant funds to cover the cost of replacing the meat and other frozen food products.
“As our community recognizes September as ‘Hunger Action Month,’ it seems so fitting that our Community Foundation – thanks to the generous donors to the Season of Sharing campaign – was able to respond so quickly with support that will enable All Faiths to restock the freezer and continue its vital food distribution in Sarasota and DeSoto counties,” said Community Foundation of Sarasota County President and CEO Roxie Jerde. “All Faiths is truly a lifeline for the individuals and families who rely on the organization for food.”
“We are so very fortunate that the Community Foundation could come to the rescue,” said Executive Director Sandra Frank, “Food safety is our number one priority. The Community Foundation’s quick action helped us continue to meet the needs of our clients.”
