The Community Foundation of Sarasota County was recently announced as a member of the Aspen Institute Ascend Network, a new network of leading organizations using two-generation approaches to disrupt poverty and create economic mobility for families. The Community Foundation is one of the initial 58 organizations, selected from 24 states and the District of Columbia, that represent the leading edge of a national movement around two-generation approaches.

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County is thrilled to announce that the annual Season of Sharing campaign has reached new heights, breaking the $2 million mark. These funds will help more than 2,800 individuals in need to stay in their homes.

Community Foundation of Sarasota County president and CEO Roxie Jerde served as a presenter during a session on the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading at the recent Florida Philanthropic Network Winter Summit in Orlando. Jerde discussed the work the Community Foundation is leading along with community partners to ensure all Sarasota County students read at the third-grade level by the end of third grade, and why this work is needed.

Grant to Women's Fund of Southwest Florida to support raising awareness of human trafficking

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County granted $2,500 from the Edward K. Roberts Fund to The Women's Fund of Southwest Florida to support raising awareness of human trafficking in DeSoto and Charlotte Counties.

Pines of Sarasota Foundation meets $65,000 match from anonymous donor at CFSC

The Pines of Sarasota Foundation has successfully met a $65,000 match offered by an anonymous donor of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County and strengthened its capacity – fundraising and digital – in the process, as part of its recent $65,000 Challenge. This initiative was conceived in honor of the organization’s 65 years of service to the community.

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County has granted $25,000 to All Faiths Food Bank, to be used for purchasing meat and protein items for local families in need. The gift is from the Season of Sharing Fund, an annual philanthropic fund created by the Herald-Tribune Media Group and the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, supported by generous private, corporate and foundation donors.

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County recently awarded Animal Rescue Coalition (ARC) a $4,000 grant to assist in the purchase software that will enable the organization to implement a new donor management system.

The Players Theatre received a Special Project Grant of $3,645 from the Thomas and Lola Seligman Fund of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. The Players will use the grant to purchase and install a large lumen projector system. The new projector will replace an existing projector that suddenly stopped working and could not be repaired.

The Women Giving Together Giving Circle of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County has made its first grant to Second Chance, Last Opportunity (SCLO), a community-based 501(c)(3) grassroots organization that has been offering life management skills classes to at-risk teens and their low income and/or homeless families since 1995.
