Chief Financial Officer
Laura Spencer is the Chief Financial Officer of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. This key role is responsible for the Foundation’s financial reporting, risk management functions, budget, technology roadmap, and investment oversight.
Laura has a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with High Honors from the University of Florida and is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Florida Institute of CPAs. Laura has also completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. She started her career with Deloitte, Haskins & Sells in Tampa, followed by nine years at Kerkering, Barberio & Co. CPA’s before joining Tervis Tumbler Company. She spent 14 years at Tervis, the 65-year old manufacturer of premium insulated drink ware based in North Venice, where she held several key leadership roles during a significant period of growth in the organization, including the role of President and Chief Executive Officer from 2006-2010.
Laura’s community involvement includes being a member of the Finance Committee of ShelterBox, member of the Florida Suncoast Chapter of the International Women’s Forum, and past board member of the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) of Sarasota County.
Laura has strong roots to the area, having grown up in Sarasota and Venice. She has a son, Kevin, who attends the University of South Florida.
