In the spirit of communitywide philanthropy, the Giving Challenge is a 24-hour giving day that brings together more than 700 local nonprofits with their passionate donors and community members to support the causes they care about while creating transformative impact.
At the heart of the Giving Challenge is a shared goal of collaboration and relationship building across sectors that bridges the diverse missions of our local nonprofits and inspires a vibrant culture of charitable giving.

Giving Challenge 2024 marked the ninth Giving Challenge we've hosted during the last 12 years. Since the initial Giving Challenge in 2012 more than $92 million of unrestricted funding has been raised for local nonprofit organizations that serve our region.
This year, $17.2 million was raised to strengthen 724 participating charitable organizations. In 2024, an unprecedented number of donors--more than 53,000!--made 90,000 gifts, totalling more than $10.5 million. An additional $6.7 million was provided by The Patterson Foundation through their generous dollar-for-dollar match.
In the aftermath of the 2022 Giving Challenge, we invited participating nonprofits to complete a survey that offered their insights and outcomes. While we await results of a new survey to be distributed this year, you can see all the 2022 stats and read about the takeaways here.

Once again, our community reached out with a remarkable outpouring of support in just 24 hours during the 2022 Giving Challenge, providing $16.2 million to nearly 700 nonprofit organizations across Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, and DeSoto counties. #WeAreOne Giving Challenge 2020
Social distancing has left many of us wanting to feel connected to our larger community and be part of something that unites our region.
