Longboat Key Triathlon Draws 500 Athletes to Benefit Longboat Key Foundation
More than 500 athletes from across the nation and around the world converged on Longboat Key on October 19 to compete in the fifth annual Longboat Key Triathlon. The event benefited the Longboat Key Foundation.
The triathlon also included a duathlon competition that is ranked among the top 10 in the United States. The event took place along the full length of Gulf of Mexico Drive, and on the grounds of the Resort at Longboat Key Club.
The Foundation, which recruited 60 volunteers to support the event, is a component fund of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Longboat Key Foundation helps donors address community needs and aspirations. The Foundation identifies and pursues initiatives to enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors in the island community on Florida’s West Coast.
The Foundation’s work is guided by a diverse, volunteer advisory board that includes Longboat Key residents and other stakeholders committed to the long-term sustainability and livability of the key. Information:www.LongboatKeyFoundation.org.
