Season of Sharing: $100,000 Match Opportunity Achieved, Still Funds to Raise
More than 500 donations ranging from $5 to $20,000 were received on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 for the Community Foundation of Sarasota County’s Giving Tuesday challenge for the Season of Sharing campaign, raising more than $200,000 together with matching dollars.
Of each dollar raised, 100% will go directly to support families and individuals on the verge of homelessness, thanks to hundreds of hours of administrative support donated by the Foundation, local media partners, and nonprofit fiscal agencies involved in this collaborative effort. Additionally, The Patterson Foundation will contribute $100,000 for every $500, 000 raised by the community.
“We are deeply touched by the outpouring of support from so many people who have compassion for those who are struggling in their current situations,” said Roxie Jerde, president and CEO of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County.
“With our goal to assist 2,400 families with emergency assistance this year, the dollars raised on Giving Tuesday have provided an early boost for this season-long campaign and will inspire continued giving to Season of Sharing throughout December and January.”
Created by the Herald-Tribune Media Group in partnership with the Community Foundation of Sarasota County in 2000, Season of Sharing is a community-wide campaign providing a safety net for families and individuals in danger of becoming homeless. Donors may designate their gifts for Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, or DeSoto counties, or the area of greatest need.
Funds that are raised may be used for rent or mortgage, utility bills, child care, transportation, food vouchers or other crucial expenses.
