Venice Fire Department receives new equipment, thanks to area community foundations
The Venice Fire Department just received new equipment, thanks to grants from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County and the Gulf Coast Community Foundation. The Fire Department received an extinguisher prop, which provides fire department personnel with a new tool to train its schools, businesses and citizens on how to properly use a fire extinguisher.
Earlier this year, Lieutenant Frank Giddens and fellow grant committee members applied for - and won - a grant through the Gulf Coast Community Foundation covering $4,600 of the $7,930.77 needed for the extinguisher equipment. The remaining balance was provided by the Kathleen K. Catlin Fund of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County for $3,330.77.
Fire Department members say this new equipment will be put to good use. On average, the Venice Fire Department holds about 30-40 classes annually, training over 1,000 people on proper operation of a fire extinguisher.
