CFSC continues longstanding support of ITNSarasota
ITNSarasota is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a grant of $50,000 from the James Franklin Warnell & Dorothy J. Warnell Fund of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County to continue to provide transportation for seniors and adults with visual impairment.
“Since our launch in 2008, the Community Foundation has supported and encouraged the mission of ITNSarasota and we are grateful for its continued support,” said Scott Carpenter, ITNSarasota Board Chairman. “Through this grant that helps pay for the actual cost of delivering a ride, seniors in our community are given new-found freedom and mobility through the dignified transportation service ITN uniquely provides.”
More than 600 times each month, a corps of volunteer drivers transport ITNSarasota members to destinations such as doctor’s appointments, dental appointments, lectures, lunches, dinners and the performing arts. One rider said recently that she wouldn’t be able to leave her home without the benefit of ITNSarasota services.
ITNSarasota provides arm-in-arm and door through door services and most of the drivers are volunteers. Strong friendships and caring relationships are forged during these trips, many of the member riders and volunteers have become close friends --creating more of a connection for seniors to the community outside their homes.
