Longboat Key Triathlon competitors will swim a half mile in the lagoon off New Pass at the south end of Longboat, bike 20 miles north and then south on Gulf of Mexico Drive, and run five miles on the grounds of the Resort and Longboat Club Road.

Contestants Bite off More Than They Can Chew at Snooty's Lettuce Eating Competition

Five of the best and brightest Manatee County community personalities came together to go head to head in “Snooty’s Lettuce Eating Contest” at the South Florida Museum in Bradenton. The contest was part of an effort to raise awareness for the care that is required for the manatees that reside at the South Florida Museum as well as promote the Birthday Bash for Snooty, the world’s oldest known manatee, happening on Saturday, July 19.

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County granted $5,000 from the Libby Yungblut Field of Interest Charitable Fund to WEDU PBS. The grant funds will support expanded outreach efforts of WEDU’s "American Graduate: Let’s Make It Happen" initiative, which includes a campaign to create public awareness and help find solutions to the school drop-out crisis in West Central Florida.
